The Internet of things (IoT) refers to the dense network of real-time physical items, including sensors, microprocessors, and communication protocols, which are embedded in various technological systems for the purpose of transacting and exchanging information with other such systems and devices over the Internet. An Internet of things is a global system that contains real-time data, enabling distributed computing in industries such as manufacturing, hospitality, health care, retail, financial, and creative industries. As opposed to the traditional server-based computing models, the Internet of things allows for devices to communicate over short distances, such as wireless networks. The IoT does not affect the user’s computer because the data exchanged does not reside on the hard drives of the computer systems but on the nodes of the network. The Internet of things has been called “the internet of machines” because it provides a platform that can be used to create and deploy any kind of application, ranging from software applications to complex systems like social networking sites and electronic payment systems. With this, the possibility of building a computer network that spans the entire planet has now become a reality.
In the past, different technologies were required in order to develop the Internet of things. However, this is no longer the case as new generation internet technologies have evolved that can be used to create smart devices and other forms of IT automation. Examples include automation software like Fabrication Management System (FMS), which helps to fabricate components at a low cost and save money on materials, labor, and overhead expenses. Also, automated systems for weather and climate monitoring are now available. Another example is the Real Estate Internet of Things, which connects realtors’ offices and their tenants with each other through the Internet and Digital Asset Management systems.

Also, the World Wide Web has made it possible for people all over the world to share and exchange data at the speed of instant messaging. This has paved the way for Internet of Things (IoT) systems. With this concept, several things are connected to the Internet. For instance, a refrigeration system can be hooked up to the Internet to track its performance.
The internet, however, is not the only thing that links all the devices that make up the Internet of things. In fact, the entire infrastructure is actually an interlinked system. There are several ways by which one can be connected to the internet. One can use a wired Ethernet network, wireless Wi-Fi or cellular phones to connect to the internet. Notebook computers: Similar to a cell phone, a notebook computer can also act as an internet of things device if it can connect to the internet using a USB port. Notebooks are ideal for travelers because they do not need to be connected to a power source all the time. However, when surfing, they may be exposed to various internet risks like spyware, adware and viruses. Therefore, it is recommended that they get rid of the spyware before using their notebook computer any longer.
Digital television: As the name suggests, this type of internet of things is connected to a television through a cable or satellite connection. The television will then allow its users to watch live television programs even without using the internet. This is perfect for people who want to stay up to date with the latest news or for people who want to catch up on their favorite shows while on the go. Aside from the convenience provided by this kind of internet of things, it can also save them hundreds of dollars per year because they no longer have to purchase subscriptions to get television channels.
